Satan the inventor of Guile

Jesus was talking to religious leaders who talked a good talk, but whose hearts were against God.   He was tough on hypocrites.

John 8:44-47
44        "You are of your father the devil, and you want to do the desires of your father. He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him. Whenever he speaks a lie, he speaks from his own nature; for he is a liar, and the father of lies.
45        "But because I speak the truth, you do not believe Me.
46        "Which one of you convicts Me of sin? If I speak truth, why do you not believe Me?
47        "He who is of God hears the words of God; for this reason you do not hear them, because you are not of God." (NAS)

Think about the statement “there is no truth in him”--Satan.  That is an absolute statement.

How does that make you feel about wanting to go Satan’s way?  Can you trust him?

If someone lies, he is out for himself and not for me.  Therefore I would be foolish to buy into Satan’s lies because they are created to do me harm.  When I believe Satan’s lies I am being pulled into the trap into which he desires to lure me.

In what ways has Satan deceived you in the past?  What were the results for you?

Jesus was saying that people rejected him because they rejected the truth. Why do people reject the truth?

How can believing the truth help us?
